In 2009, Norfolk Southern Corp. opened its Heartland Corridor, a high-capacity cargo corridor linking Columbus and the Port of Virginia. The Heartland Corridor allows trains pulling cars with cargo containers stacked two high to reach Columbus in 24 hours after leaving the port in Norfolk.
